Duisburg Film Week - Duisburger Filmwoche presents: Discoveries of Young Directors

Films of young directors shown in Duisburg starting from the 2013 festival selection

The collection brings together selected works by young filmmakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland that have been presented at the Duisburg Film Week since 2013. They provide insight into issues that this generation is grappling with. In ZWEISAMKEIT, Lilian Sassanelli, a representative of the Tinder generation, embarks on a journey of discovery with her grandparents, who have been together for more than 50 years. What is the secret of long-lasting love? For UNA PRIMAVERA, Valentina Primavera documented her mother's attempt to free herself from her marriage. DILIM DÖNMÜYOR - My Tongue Won't Turn was also filmed from the perspective of a daughter and granddaughter: Serpil Turhan explores the migration history of her Kurdish parents and grandparents. Korean-German director Ji Su Kang-Gatto, on the other hand, captures her own memories in "VLOG #8998 | Korean Carrot Cake...": What was it like to grow up as the daughter of Korean parents in a (West-)German town? In times of acute urban housing shortages, it is only logical that several films are dedicated to precarious forms of housing in metropolises (RUINA and TRÄUME VON RÄUMEN). And with HAMBI, viewers are confronted with the inconvenient question of who is more radical: anarchic forest squatters - or those who are pushing ahead with deforestation to continue lignite mining.
