Only on filmfriend: Highlights from the German Youth Film Award

What young filmmakers bring to the screen is as diverse as their cinematic signatures. The new filmfriend collection, available exclusively on filmfriend, brings together standout films from four decades of the German Youth Film Award, the nationwide competition for emerging filmmakers launched in 1987/1988, offering insights into a wide range of genres, themes and storytelling styles. To date, the Youth Film Award and the Generations Film Award have drawn more than 177,000 participants and over 22,000 film submissions. Here, animation meets humour and action, and coming-of-age stories meet original cinematic experiments. Some films explore the hopes, concerns and worries of young people, while others impress above all with creative ideas, surprising twists or outstanding filmmaking craft. Here you will find the first cinematic works of directors such as Sven Taddicken (“Spray”, “Fish!”) and Stephen Manuel (“Mann tritt Hund”), as well as actress Emma Bading (“Unerhört”). It doesn’t always have to be about a big message: sometimes it’s simply about the joy of storytelling. Together, the films show how diverse young filmmaking is and the many different ways young talents find to tell their stories.
