Caligari Film Prize

Previous award-winning films of the Berlinale Forum at filmfriend

Since 2024, the Kommunale Kinos and filmfriend have jointly awarded the renowned Caligari Film Prize to an innovative film from the Berlinale Forum program. The prize is endowed with €4,000 and is awarded annually during the Berlinale. The cooperation marks the first time that a cinema association and a streaming platform have worked together. With a joint exploitation concept for cinema and streaming, Caligari award-winning films will be made accessible to a wide audience on filmfriend. Our collection contains works that have been awarded the Caligari Film Prize: - “It Happened Just Before” (2009, director: Anja Salomonowitz) - “The Great Museum” (2014, director: Johannes Holzhausen) - “Heimat Is a Space in Time” (2019, director: Thomas Heise) And is complemented by other films by filmmakers who have received the Caligari Film Prize. It also includes the documentary film ‘Come With Me to the Cinema – The Gregors’ (Germany 2022) by Alice Agneskirchner. It is dedicated to the life and work of cineastes Erika and Ulrich Gregor, who headed the Berlinale section ‘International Forum of New Cinema’ from 1970 to 2000. The Gregors' work significantly shaped the Berlinale as a cosmopolitan, politically and artistically ambitious festival.
