Frieder Schlaich, born in Stuttgart in 1961, studied visual communication at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Together with Irene von Alberti, he founded "Filmgalerie 451" in 1987, a combination of cineastically oriented video rental, video distribution and film production. Schlaich's first feature film "Paul Bowles - Half Moon" was based on three short stories by Paul Bowles, among others he received the German Film Critics' Feature Film Award (1995). Between 2000 and 2017 he made the feature films "Otomo", "Weil ich schön bin" and "Naomis Reise", which form a trilogy about migration and racism in Germany.
