The fifth season of “Upstairs, Downstairs,” with its 16 episodes, also marks the end of the hugely successful television series. Set between 1919 and 1930, it follows the Bellamys and their servants through the post-war period, the Roaring Twenties, and the stock market crash. The house on Eaton Place also faces financial challenges as the family tries to maintain their social status. Meanwhile, the staff must come to terms with new roles and social changes. The grand saga concludes with themes such as social change and economic uncertainty in the interwar period on the one hand, and the very personal fates of the house's residents on the other. --- In the months following the end of the war, Eaton Place has become quiet. Richard and Virginia are already looking for a new place to start a new life with Virginia's children Alice and William. There is not enough work left in the house for the six employees, so James has to let them go...
