How to Be a Good Wife

France, 1968: The country is undergoing radical change. However, the fresh wind of the women's movement has not yet reached Paulette Van der Beck's domestic science school. Together with her conservative husband, her sister-in-law, and the nun Marie-Thérèse, she tries to teach her young students the qualities and—above all—the duties of the “perfect wife.” But not everyone is happy with this outdated role model anymore. When Paulette's husband dies unexpectedly, she is faced with financial ruin: her school is heavily in debt! Mr. Van der Beck should have had the finances perfectly under control, after all, he was a man... Faced with a mountain of debt and the question of how to keep their traditional institution going, Paulette and her colleagues must learn to go their own way—and in doing so, they are swept along by their students and the 1968 movement.
