Major Louvetot is making no progress with his investigation and eventually turns his attention to Rousseau’s theory of the golden ratio: Louvetot, too, now suspects the librarian Hugo. He follows him to the monastery, where Hugo, disguised as a monk, is about to steal something. Rousseau arrives, and together they manage to apprehend Hugo. But during the interrogation, it suddenly becomes clear that the motive isn’t strong enough.
