Deeply carved river valleys and desert-like rock plateaus - the sandstone mountains along the river Elbe are known as Saxony's Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz) or simple the Elbe Sandstone Mountains (Elbsandsteingebirge). Over millions of years, wind and water, heat and frost created a unique landscape. Rare animals such as garden dormice, peregrine falcons and black storks have adapted to life on and between the sandstone rocks. Chamois have been introduced by humans. With extraordinary footage, this film portrays one of Germany's greatest natural wonders. A journey through the four seasons - starting in winter.
