European Award Season

A celebration of European cinema and its wide variety of styles and themes

The European Award Season is a project organized by the European Film Academy that begins in mid-November with the announcement of the nominations for the European Film Awards and celebrates the diversity of European cinema. Across Europe, from Reykjavik to Athens, from Lisbon to Bucharest, but also in small towns and rural regions, events, special programs, and retrospectives take place for six weeks from mid-November to mid-January. The European Award Season culminates in the presentation of the European Film Awards. The focus of the European Award Season is on cultural heritage: The European Film Academy has its own department for European film heritage, which promotes classics and is committed to protecting historically valuable locations associated with European cinema. The current European Award Season runs from November 17, 2025, to January 17, 2026, when the European Film Awards will be presented. The project aims to grow every year, offering more and more venues and opportunities to celebrate European cinema. This year, filmfriend is participating in the European Award Season for the first time with an extensive collection. It includes films from almost all of Europe, many of which have won awards and have often been honored with the European Film Award.
