Monika Schindler (born 12.1.1938). The film editor was one of the most renowned editors in the DEFA studio for feature films. She was involved in well over 100 feature, documentary and television films and worked with DEFA film directors such as Roland Gräf, Herrmann Zschoche and Günter Reisch. During her training she assisted the editor Lena Neumann in her work on the films DAS LIED DER MATROSEN (1958) and DER SCHWEIGENDE STERN (1959) by Kurt Maetzig.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, she was able to continue her career successfully, working with directors such as Andreas Dresen, Winfried Bonengel and Gordian Maugg. In 2017, she was the first editor ever to be awarded the "Honorary Award for Outstanding Services to German Film" at the German Film Awards ceremony.
