And the Oscar® goes to…

About the famous US film awards, awarded or nominated films

It's crazy: There are numerous important and renowned film awards in this country, in Europe and all over the world, but none of them cause as much of a stir around the globe as the "Oscars®". The Academy Awards are the prizes of the US film industry and are awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to the best films of the previous year. The award was established on 12 February 1929 by the then MGM President Louis B. Mayer Since then it has been awarded in more than 30 different categories. The award statuette depicts a knight with a sword on a film reel. Such an "Oscar®" is 34 cm high, weighs 4.3 kg, is made of bronze and is electrolytically coated with 24-carat gold. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 11, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year, the awards ceremony will be hosted again by Jimmy Kimmel. Our "Oscar®" collection gathers award-winner and nominated films as well as some articles about "Oscar"-winning filmmakers.
