Corona Holidays

Everyday life/Society, Germany 2020

Jacob finally has time for his tyrannosaurus! For this seven-year-old, “corona holidays” means: more play, better food, longer breaks from studying. The virus only scares him when he thinks about his grandma. Jacob is now learning the school material at home, unlike some of the children in his class, who cannot get any support from their parents. Jacob is in second grade in Berlin. In March 2020, his school has to close for two months due to the risk of corona infection. During this time Jacob lives with his mother, with his big sister and with his stepfather in Brandenburg. There is a garden, forest and a sports field here. But there are also lots of maths and German exercises. But how does the lesson go without a teacher? And what is it like when the family can - and has to - spend the whole day together? When you are not even allowed to come, even on your birthday? Eight weeks are a long time. Jacob talks to his stepfather about photos that were taken during the corona vacation. And he has the courage to talk about this time in front of the camera.
